Richard Cartwright Biography

Richard Cartwright is a Governor of the Motability Foundation and sits on the Audit and Risk Committee, where he contributes his expertise in financial oversight, risk management and assurance to support the Foundation’s charitable mission.

Richard brings wide-ranging governance experience across the public, private and third sectors. He serves as a Non-Executive Director of Places for People Group, one of the UK’s largest placemaking and regeneration organisations. He is a Board Member of the AAT where he chairs the Audit & Risk Committee and works with the National Audit Office, Abri Group and the ICAEW.

In his academic role, Richard is a Principal Enterprise Fellow at the University of Southampton Business School, where he has taught financial reporting, audit, governance and ethics. He actively brings external boardroom experience into the classroom to enrich student learning and professional development.

A Chartered Accountant (FCA), Richard is a former Council Member of the ICAEW and Chair of its Assessment Committee. He continues to support the ICAEW Southern Network and is a member of the ICAEW Regulatory & Appointments Conduct, contributing to the integrity and advancement of the accountancy profession.

His earlier career includes time at KPMG as an external auditor and an appointment to the Department for Education’s T Level Panel for Accounting. Passionate about inclusion, Richard is a founder and former Chair of the Team Solent Sharks Wheelchair Rugby Club and was recognised in the Shaw Trust Disability Power 100 in 2018.
