Call for proposals: Developing a new wheelchair service model

Publish date:

We’re inviting proposals from organisations to support the discovery phase of a vital new project aimed at improving wheelchair provision across the UK

Through research we’ve previously funded, it’s clear that wheelchair services vary dramatically depending on where you live. From long waiting times to inadequate repair support, there are systemic challenges to wheelchair provision that need addressing.

Working in partnership with disabled people and key stakeholders within the NHS and transport industry, we want to develop a new service model that is high-quality, person-centred and sustainable.

For the discovery phase, we’re looking for a partner to help us develop a clear, evidence-based understanding of current wheelchair provision and where systemic gaps exist. This will include:

  • Mapping current pathways to wheelchair provision
  • Capturing user journeys
  • Designing possible service models
  • Assessing financial feasibility

If you’re interested in submitting a proposal or would like more information, email innovation@motabilityfoundation.org.uk

The deadline for receiving proposals is Friday 9 January 2026

This initiative is part of our new five-year strategy, where one of our key focus areas is personal mobility. We want to build a future where all disabled people can get where they need to go safely and independently, whether that’s at home or in public spaces.

Together, we want to create transport equity and lasting change.

Please feel free to share this opportunity with your wider networks.
