Inclusive golf collaboration supports children with upper body limb differences

Adaptive 3D-printed prosthetics and coaching sessions from Sport For All UK are giving more children opportunities to play golf.

As part of an inclusive project from Sport For All UK, children with limb disabilities are given adaptive prosthetics, from Koalaa prosthetics company, during golfing sessions, helping them grow in confidence and enjoy sport alongside their peers. The project aims to set up a pathway for children to gain the skills and confidence to play, and ultimately join longer-term junior golf programmes.

Aimi Bullock, Chair of Trustees at Sport for All UK, says: “When you have a disability, golf probably isn’t the first sport you think of as an activity to do. But ultimately, it's a great sport for someone with a disability because it’s a stationary ball. So you’re concentrating on moving your body and coordinating your own body, rather than having to run somewhere to collect or pass.

“I came across Koalaa and I thought, ‘what an amazing opportunity to try and create a pathway for children with upper body limb difference to learn to play golf’. Everyone should have that opportunity.”

Hundreds of children have now played across the nine centres in the UK since April 2025, when the project began. Between 30 and 40 of those have continued on to further golf lessons.

Making golf accessible to all

The initiative began when Aimi was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. A passionate golfer herself, Aimi was already volunteering to raise awareness of accessibility in the sport. In summer 2024, she established sports disability charity Sport For All UK, with the aim of breaking down barriers and providing access to sport for people with disabilities.

Six months later, Sport For All UK had funding from the Kate and Justin Rose Foundation (KJRF) to purchase adaptive, 3D-printed prosthetics from Koalaa and began holding sessions for children with upper body limb differences to try them.

These prosthetics enable children to use golf clubs without becoming overreliant on one half of their body more than the other, explains Aimi. Different attachments for these prosthetics can be swapped in, depending on the sport. Using the golf tool attachment, the prosthetic ensures two points of contact with the club, making it easier to use. It also distributes the swing between both shoulders.

The programme is already creating the next generation of golfers: “I recently bumped into a girl, who was part of our programme, and her mum was saying they bought her a set of golf clubs for Christmas, and she goes to the driving range with her brothers a couple of times a month,” says Aimi.

“That’s the purpose of the project. Children are given that pathway so that if they want to continue with golf, they can.”
