From portable breezes to instant-cooling fabric, here is how to protect your health and your home during this summer’s record-breaking heatwaves.
The UK has seen some truly scorching temperatures this year, reaching a sweltering, and record-breaking, 37.7°C last month.
Extreme heat can trigger an array of health issues, including heat exhaustion, heatstroke, cardiovascular and renal strain, cognitive impairment and more. To help keep cool, it’s important to make sure you are doing a few of the essentials things below:
Have cool food and regular cold drinks to avoid dehydration, but avoid alcohol and caffeine
Close your windows, curtains and blinds during the day and open them at night when the outside temperature cools
Put cool water on your skin and clothes
Stay in the shade, especially between 11am and 3pm, and wear sunscreen; a hat and light clothes
