Driving change through lived experience

Publish date:

Only people with lived experience of disability can truly understand the barriers disabled people face in day-to-day life.

At the Motability Foundation, we believe that disabled people should not just be part of the conversation but driving the change.

That’s why I was honoured to share a stage last week with the founders of 16 fantastic start-ups, at the UK’s first springboard programme for accessible innovation.

From transport to fitness, the entrepreneurs representing a range of sectors, came together at the Tech Nation CREO Showcase, hoping to take their enterprises to the next level.

With personal experiences behind every venture, speakers like Ishan from Travel Hands shared solutions to support disabled people navigating workplaces, public transport and so much more. And what an inspiring day it was.

I’m incredibly proud that the Motability Foundation is the lead partner in this programme.

Sadly, it’s still the case that disabled people are far less likely to receive funding from traditional investors. Four hundred times less, in fact.

Creating opportunities for businesses with a disability focus to thrive is vital if we are to achieve an equitable society.
